Cornerstone Prep utilizes academic rigor and a Biblical worldview to equip all students with the skills and character necessary to succeed in college and to become life-changing leaders in their community.
Memphis' Future Depends on Educating Our Students
Memphis enjoys a rich heritage and a great history as a major city on the Mississippi river. However, the current condition of education in Memphis threatens the future success of the city. Consider the following statistics:
o Memphis City School students earned a grade of D in Math and Reading and a grade of F in Science and Social Studies on the most recent TCAP Criterion Referenced Academic Achievement Test for grades 3-8.
o More than 33% of MCS students will drop out of school.
o The composite ACT scores for MCS students in 2008 was 17.5 compared to a US average of 21.1
The future of the communities like Binghampton, Memphis, and cities around the country depend on schools that create educated leaders with strong character and high moral values. Cornerstone Prep will create those kinds of future leaders.
Our cities are failing to provide
our urban youth with the education needed to succeed like their suburban
counterparts. Today, most elementary
students in the Binghampton area of Memphis score "Ds" or "Fs" on standardized test
for reading and mathematics. These
critical components are directly linked to high dropout rates, difficulty in
entering into the workforce, and likelihood of being involved in crime. Changing this trend will take a
generation.
Cornerstone Preparatory School Counters Trend
Cornerstone Preparatory School was
founded to counter this trend in Binghampton. The school addresses the critical need for rigorous academic
and spiritual development of Binghampton’s children. The school will launch with 30 Kindergarten students in August
2010 and add an additional grade each year through the fifth grade.
Do You Believe All Children Can Learn?
The founders of Cornerstone Preparatory School believe that all children can learn
and be successful when given access to an achievement-oriented, structured,
disciplined learning environment beginning in kindergarten.
