From Executive Director Drew Sippel
We have certainly learned a great deal
over the last 4 years as we have worked
towards August 18, 2010, the first day
of Cornerstone Preparatory School.
In this first ever edition of our e-newsletter,
I would like to share with you a few
areas where we have acquired knowledge
or skill by study, instruction or experience:
God’s Ways Are Higher than Ours
- Isaiah 55:9 states, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
We have certainly learned this lesson over and over again. Four years ago we thought we ready to take over the leadership of an
existing school – God knew better. Three years ago we thought we knew what the school culture should be – God knew better.
Two years ago we thought we were ready to hire our Principal and start the school – God knew better. One
year ago we thought we had a permanent school location – God knew better. In these and many other ways, we have seen God’s wisdom in directing us away from
certain decisions
and towards others – and each time we have seen that God’s way was obviously better. We will continue to seek His direction through
prayer and supplication.
A Real Life Widow’s Mite
- We have been amazed at
our volunteers and their willingness
to help make the Cornerstone Prep dream
a reality. Here is just one example:
Several months ago Mary (not her real
name) told me she really wanted to support
the school but that she was retired,
living on a fixed income, and had no
available financial resources. So, she
contacted every bookstore in town asking
them to donate books to Cornerstone
Prep. That was a huge blessing – but
that is the not the end of the story.
This past Sunday, Mary came to me with
tears rolling down her cheek and said
she really wanted to help the school
financially. Therefore, last weekend
she went into her attic, found everything
of value and sold it at a garage sale
– a total of $80. This woman of great
heart and faith showed us a real life
example of esus’ story of the widow’s
mite.
Our Parents Go The Extra Mile
- Cornerstone Prep families have already
blessed us in amazing ways. Many of
the caregivers did not have an opportunity
to get a strong education similar to
the one they desire for their children.
Therefore, they are willing to go to
great lengths to provide that kind of
opportunity for their five-year-old.
Consider Cornerstone mom Juanita and
her daughter LaTasha (not their real
names). Each morning Juanita and her
daughter meet LaTasha’s dad the at apartment
complex at 5:00 a.m. LaTasha’s dad drives
them to the downtown bus station. Juanita
and LaTasha board the bus there and
begin their journey to school. After
several stops and transfers, Latasha
arrives at Cornerstone Prep at 7:25
a.m., ready to start learning. Many
moms like Juanita go to great lengths
to give their child a great Christian
education.
